Sheriff’s deputies arrested a federal correctional officer who worked in a High Desert prison Friday morning while he was at work, officials said.
Around 8:30 a.m., authorities arrested 31-year-old Apple Valley resident Derrick Christoff on suspicion of battery causing great bodily injury and witness intimidation, according to a Sheriff’s news release.
Christoff works at the Victorville Federal Prison on Air Expressway Boulevard in Victorville.
On Feb. 8, Christoff was at Teazers Sports Bar & Grill in Victorville when he threatened a man and then hit him in the face, causing “traumatic injury to the victim’s face,” according to the release. According to the victim, whose name authorities are not releasing, Christoff accused him of contacting Christoff’s insurance company about a car insurance claim Christoff made.
San Bernardino County Sheriff‘s spokeswoman Karen Hunt didn’t know what kind of insurance claim Christoff made because she hadn’t seen it yet. But a multi-agency, auto-theft task force took part in the arrest.
Christoff was booked at West Valley Detention center in Rancho Cucamonga on $100,000 bail.
