A soldier charged with attempted murder who escaped from Fort Bliss in West Texas was apprehended in Tennessee on Tuesday evening, authorities said.Military officials said Pvt. Deandrez Robertson will be returned to military custody. |
Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Warren Mays told Knoxville television station WVLT that Robertson, 20, was arrested around 6 p.m. EST Tuesday as he got off a bus. He is accused of beating another soldier with a baseball bat.
Mays said authorities got a tip that Robertson had boarded a bus in Indianapolis and was headed to Atlanta. He was arrested without incident.
Robertson escaped nearly a week ago after being brought to Fort Bliss outside El Paso from a jail in Otero County, N.M. Officials said he was scheduled to meet with his lawyers.
